Building a concrete parking lot takes a great deal of planning and work. The first step is to measure and mark the area that will become the concrete parking lot. This should include parameters for the concrete slab, as well as drainage systems, concrete curbs, and any parking block walls needed. Once an accurate plan is drafted, it’s time to break ground – literally! Heavy machinery is used to excavate the area and remove excess dirt and any soft spots, paving the way for the concrete foundation layer. This requires pouring concrete into specific blocks and layering it with reinforcing bars for strength before pouring the concrete into a sloped surface. Common concrete parking lot construction materials include concrete sealer, paint or other markings for spaces, concrete curbs and edges, asphalt cloak or leveling layer, and lastly, forms for any additional structures like rows of flowerbeds or walkways.
